Young Masters Martial Arts first opened its doors April 1st, 2007 in the lower level of the Woodstock Square Mall. Over the years expanding membership and growing popularity as well as requests for additional programs forced YMMA to add more training areas. From a small space occupying only 2,100 square feet , YMMA has expanded to include four state of the art training studios that occupy the entire lower level of the Woodstock Square Mall.
Our programs have expanded from just Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Tai Chi and Yoga to a full range of martial arts and fitness programs suitable for children as young as three years old and extending to seniors. We are also partnering with the Woodstock Ballet Studio,McCormack-Fay Irish Dance Academy and Simple Path Yoga to further increase the programs available at this location.
Additional programs and seminars include Women’s Self Defense, Anti-bullying programs for children and teens, Youth Leadership programs, Little Ninjas program for children 3-6, Karate kids for children 6-8, Senior self-defense and specialized weapon training focusing on cane, staff and stick.
To focus on the fitness side, Young Masters Fitness for life was created to partner with trainers and outside organizations in order to develop unique and targeted programs that address the needs of children, teens, adults, seniors, as well as serious competitors.
In addition to public and small group classes, Young Masters Martial arts and Young Masters Fitness for Life Studio offers personal training and private instruction sessions from certified instructors.
In addition to the growth, both in number of members and floor space, Young Masters, our trainers and instructors and partner programs have won a variety of local and regional awards.
In 2014 alone our awards for Young Martial Arts included Best of the Fox awards for Best Martial arts studio and Best birthday venue. Awards for Fitness for Life included Julie Doerr as Best Personal Trainer and Fitness for life was named ‘one of the best’ Health clubs in the Fox Valley. Our partner, MoonWillow Tai Chi and Wellness won the Best of the fox award for Alternative Medicine.
In February, 2015, John Dughi, one of our senior Martial Art Instructors was recognized by the Northwest Herald as an “Every Day Hero,” for his years of commitment to the youth of McHenry County.
In 2015 we again won the Northwest Herald's recognition for Best Martial Arts School and Birthday Venue in the Fox Valley area. Our Fitness studio won the Northwest Herald’s recognition as both Best Fitness Studio and Friendliest Staff. Our associates, Woodstock Ballet Studio and Simple Path Yoga also won Best of the Fox Awards in 2015.
In 2016 Young Masters Martial Arts and Fitness for life was named “Best of the Fox for our Martial Arts School and Fitness Studio. Simple Path Yoga was again awarded the “Best of the Fox”. The trainers and Staff of fitness for life were recognized by the Northwest Herald as “One of the best of the Fox” in the ‘Friendliest Staff’ category.
We take great pride in these awards, because they reflect directly on the satisfaction and approval of the students, clients and parents. If our efforts did not exceed their expectations, these awards would not have been possible.
In spite of our expansion over the years, Young Masters has retained the focus on assuring the success of every member. Class sizes are kept low to make sure that every person receives the individual attention and instruction that they deserve.
